Movie Review - War Horse: The Movie

‘War Horse: The Movie’ is a 2011 film directed by a famous director, Steven Spielberg. It is a movie based on a novel by Michael Marpago. The movie stars are Jeremy as Albert ‘Albie’ Narracott, Peter Mullan as Ted Narracott, Joey (the horse), and many more. The type of the movie is a war movie, but it’s also a family movie because the movie doesn’t contain violence and bloody scenes. The setting of the movie starts at Devon, England, UK during the WWI.

The story is about the loyalty of a brave, strong horse named Joey to his owner, a naïve, nice young man named Albert Narracott (A.K.A. Albie). Albie meets Joey when his father, Ted Narracott wins a horse by bidding in a horse auction. He buys Joey and brings him home. Ted is a veteran that has a drinking problem. To forget all of his problems, he drinks. Albie trains Joey until Ted sells him to Captain James Nicholls (portrayed by Tom Hiddleston) because of the declaration of war. Albie makes a solemn promise that he would find Joey and brings him back. Will he fulfill his promise to bring Joey back?

Although some of the scene have a setting in France, Germany, and No-Man’s Land, but all of the scenes in the movie was filmed in UK. The acting was quite good. For your information, the film was the first debut of Jeremy Irvine as a professional actor. But some of the special effects were quite unrealistic. For example, in the last scene, the sunset was unrealistic because the color was too ‘orange’. While in England, the sunset was never as orange as the movie. The explosions in the war scenes were the reaction of the chemicals. In another words, the explosions was synthetic.

This movie is recommended for everyone. With the rating of PG-13, the film is safe from violence and bloods. And also, the movie can make you cry because of the dramatic scenes. The movie nominated some awards and won awards. Some of the awards that they won are; BMI Film and TV Awards as the Best Film-Music, BFCA Awards as the Best Cinematography, etc. So don’t miss the movie!
